Short answer
Gokshura is Tribulus terrestris, a small spiky plant. Ayurveda uses it mainly for the urinary system and as part of men's vitality formulas. Gyms worldwide sell it as a testosterone booster, but most human studies have not found a clear rise in testosterone. Some studies suggest it may help desire in other ways.

Gokshura is a good example of a herb whose marketing ran ahead of its evidence. That does not make it useless. It just means it is worth understanding properly.
What it is
Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) is a low, creeping plant with spiky fruits. The name means something like "cow's hoof", after the shape of the thorny fruit. The fruit and sometimes the root are used.
How Ayurveda has used it
In Ayurveda, gokshura is best known as a herb for the urinary tract and kidneys, supporting healthy urine flow. It also appears in classical men's vitality formulas as a supporting herb.
So its traditional role was never as a stand-alone testosterone pill.
What modern research says, honestly
Reviews of human studies have generally found that Tribulus does not reliably raise testosterone in healthy men. Most of the testosterone claims come from animal studies.
Some small human trials have reported improvements in desire and sexual satisfaction without hormone changes, which suggests it may act some other way. These results are mixed and need larger studies.
The fair summary: possibly helpful for some men's desire, not a proven testosterone booster.
Who should be careful
Gokshura can lower blood sugar and blood pressure and may interact with medicines for those conditions. People with kidney stones, kidney disease or prostate problems should speak to a doctor first.
Rare cases of liver and kidney harm have been reported with high-dose Tribulus supplements. It is not advised in pregnancy.
If you are thinking of trying it
If you are hoping to raise testosterone, get your level tested first, because low testosterone has causes that need proper care.
If you choose to try gokshura, use a moderate amount from a licensed maker, ideally as part of a doctor's plan rather than a gym tub.
